Leopard Print: A Timeless Trend or Fading Fashion?
Love it or hate it, leopard print is one of those enduring trends that never seems to disappear from our wardrobes. But will it still be in style in 2024?
At Leopard Style, we believe in wearing what makes you feel comfortable and confident. For those looking for fashion advice, we’re diving into whether animal print remains a style staple this year. 🕶
Before we answer that, let’s take a step back. How did this trend become so iconic?
Leopard Print: A Fashion Phenomenon Since the 1930s
Did you know that animal print has been in vogue since the 1930s, and it all started with Tarzan? Yes, you read that right…
Before the release of the Tarzan film, prints resembling animal fur or patterns were worn as a symbol of power. But after seeing the character Jane on screen, people realized that dressing in animal print was not just powerful—it was fun and exciting. Fast forward to today, and you can spot leopard print everywhere, even on children.
Is Leopard Print Still in Style for 2024?
If last year’s fashion collections are any indication of what’s ahead, we can confidently say that animal prints, including leopard, are here to stay in 2024 (and likely well beyond).
Runways have been teeming with prints inspired by our favorite jungle animals: from Bottega Veneta’s zebra prints for Spring-Summer to Saint Laurent’s leopard prints for Fall-Winter. Meanwhile, French women have fully embraced zebra, leopard, and even cow prints. 🤓
But it’s not just clothing that’s getting the animal print treatment—leopard shoes for fall and winter are also trending, partly due to the rise of the Western look.
Cow prints are still making a strong appearance, especially on mules and cowboy boots. You’ll also find crocodile, zebra, and snake prints everywhere. And let’s not forget the vibrant animal prints: think lilac snake skin and crocodile patterns.
Animal Prints: A Perennial Fashion Staple
Trends may come and go (and come back again), but some remain eternal, earning their place season after season. While their popularity might fluctuate, these prints inevitably return, forming the cornerstones of our wardrobes.
This season, among all the fleeting trends, our beloved animal print has made a thoughtful comeback. Once worn by our parents and grandparents, it’s still just as relevant today. At Balenciaga’s SS20 show, leopard print appeared as an oversized, masculine fur coat with padded shoulders, paired with yellow tights and statement earrings—subtle, right?
At Saint Laurent, models strutted down the runway in sultry cheetah print dresses, while Richard Quinn’s take on leopard print was full of joy. His collection featured exaggerated, cartoon-like prints on voluminous dresses. And it’s not just the big cats making waves on the runway—Dolce & Gabbana’s safari-themed show celebrated the entire jungle, with tropical forest prints, giraffes, zebras, and tropical birds aplenty.
Celebrities and Leopard Print
Celebrities are fully embracing the trend as well. Actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently posted on Instagram wearing a zebra-print outfit alongside her dog, Diana, who was sporting a matching ensemble. 💃
Singer Chloe Bailey turned heads at the Grammys in a glittering, tiger-striped Louis Vuitton gown, while reality TV star Kylie Jenner, her mom Kris, and daughter Stormi graced the March cover of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia in matching leopard print looks.
It’s safe to say that the trend is on the rise—if not already at its peak. But will you wear it? If the answer is yes, but you need a little inspiration, take a look at our collection of leopard dresses, perfect for year-round wear.
6 Prints That Will Never Go Out of Style
If Alessandro Michele’s wildly popular Gucci brand has taught us anything about fashion, it’s that we’re living in an era where more is more. With print mixing, bold logos, and endless embellishments, today’s high fashion is all about maximalism.
At Leopard Style, while we lean towards a classic and chic style, often opting for simplicity, we still love to highlight a single beautiful print in a look.
That said, not all prints deserve to be the focal point of an outfit. So, we’ve made it easy for you by showcasing the classic prints that will never go out of style. Scroll through these 6 timeless patterns to find something perfect for your wardrobe.
- Floral Florals may not be groundbreaking, but the right patterns can be bold and cool. Think of the stunning floral dresses worn in the summer. 🌸
- Polka Dots This classic print is experiencing a massive resurgence, and we’re here for it. Wearing it in 2024 has never been more on-trend, so go for it!
- Stripes Stripes are one of our all-time favorite patterns, and they’re probably the easiest to wear. We love classic black and white stripes, but we’ve recently been drawn to more colorful, rainbow iterations.
- Camouflage One of the boldest prints on this list, camouflage isn’t for the fashionably timid. Yet, it’s a print that has stood the test of time, with designers offering new interpretations season after season.
- Animal Print Leopard is definitely a must-have right now, but animal prints in general (leopard, cheetah, zebra, snakeskin, even butterflies!) will always be a classic. The easiest way to wear this print is through accessories—a cheetah print coat, zebra mule, or snakeskin booties. 🐆
- Plaid When you think of a classic print, plaid is probably one of the first that comes to mind. Plaid blazers were huge last season, and the print, in general, will continue to be a major fashion trend this fall. But more importantly, it’s such a classic that it will never truly go out of style.
